This is a photo taken of me nearly a decade ago drawing the character of Van Goat for a concept called The Ark Gallery (which you can see here.)
It has been a project close to mine and my husband Charlie’s heart since the idea was conceived. We have always wanted to explore and find a witty, fun tool to teach children (and their parents) about all the great artists and famous paintings throughout history.
Art history is a subject less talked about in schools these days and we feel it is not only a terrible shame but believe it to be such an important part of learning about our history.
We wanted the concept of the “Ark” to metaphorically save the history of “Art” and we hope to try to achieve this through this illustrated pastiche!
All the pictures were detailed in soft pencil which we have printed on to cards, calendars, tea towels and notebooks and distributed onto some local shops and galleries over Christmas.
It was originally just a research and development exercise, but has been so well received that we are looking to carry the whole concept forward into 2020 and are very excited about it!
