I have already had the honour of painting the mother of these two beautiful sisters. It was so interesting to find the likeness to their mother and each other, as I studied their faces. Both had similar aspects and yet, they were so different to each other.
It was all to be a surprise for their mother’s 50th. We did pull off in the end, with some difficulty!
I met the sisters and their father at my mother’s house in Putney. I talked to them individually about their interests.
The older, dark haired girl was very philosophical and fascinating to talk to about history. I depicted her in the end with a suggestion of books behind her, looking pensive, with her exaggerated Pre-Raphaelite locks.
I even visited the Edward Burne Jones exhibition at the Tate for inspiration.
The younger sister was very sparky and quirky and wanted to wear a hat. Her passion ( like her mother’s ) was dance and she wanted to do balletic movements for preparatory pictures. I wanted to use a Degas Colour scheme to suggest this.
